Kyoto (via Osaka) Travel Guide

Kyoto is Japan's ancient imperial capital — 2,000 temples and shrines, geisha districts, bamboo groves, and the most refined traditional culture in Japan. Accessible as a day trip from Kobe or Osaka port.

How Do You Get to Kyoto?

From Kobe: Shinkansen from Shin-Kobe (30 min, 1,500 yen) or JR train (75 min, 1,110 yen). Prioritise 2-3 sites.

What Can You See?

  1. Fushimi Inari — 10,000 orange torii gates. Free. Go early.

  2. Kinkaku-ji — The Golden Pavilion reflected in a mirror pond. 400 yen.

  3. Arashiyama — Bamboo Grove and Togetsukyo Bridge.

  4. Gion — The geisha district. Narrow streets, tea houses, traditional architecture.

Where Should You Eat?

Kaiseki: Kyoto's refined multi-course meal. Beautiful, seasonal, expensive.

Matcha: Kyoto is the matcha capital. Matcha everything — tea, ice cream, mochi.
