Ibiza Travel Guide

Ibiza is known worldwide for its nightlife, but the cruise port reveals a completely different side — a UNESCO-listed old town (Dalt Vila), beautiful cove beaches, bohemian markets, and some of the best seafood in the Balearics.

How Do You Get from the Ship to Town?

The cruise terminal is right in Ibiza harbour — a 5-minute walk to the waterfront and Dalt Vila. You step off into the town. No transport needed for the old town and marina area.

What Can You See in 6 Hours?

  1. Dalt Vila — The fortified old town. Climb through the Renaissance walls past whitewashed houses to the cathedral at the summit. The views over the harbour and sea are magnificent.

  2. Sa Penya & La Marina — The bohemian quarters below Dalt Vila. Narrow lanes, boutiques, cafes, and the colourful waterfront restaurants.

  3. Cala Conta beach — One of Ibiza's most beautiful cove beaches with crystal-clear turquoise water. Taxi from town (15 min, 20 euro). Worth it for a swim.

  4. Puig des Molins — A Phoenician-Punic necropolis and UNESCO site. Over 3,000 tombs spanning 2,500 years of history. Small but fascinating museum.

Where Should You Eat in Ibiza?

Seafood: Bullit de peix (fish stew) is Ibiza's traditional dish — served in two courses (rice in broth, then the fish). Order it at any traditional restaurant.

Flao: A Balearic cheesecake made with mint and anise. Sweet, herby, and unlike any cheesecake you've had before.

Budget: Walk behind the harbour into the old town streets for tapas at local prices. Avoid the waterfront restaurant touts.

Is Ibiza Worth Exploring Independently?

Absolutely. Ibiza town is compact and walkable from the port. Dalt Vila alone justifies a morning of exploration. For beaches, grab a taxi — it's simpler and cheaper than any ship excursion. The bohemian, relaxed side of Ibiza is best discovered on foot.

Local Tips

  • Dalt Vila (the fortified old town) is a UNESCO site and Ibiza's real treasure. The climb to the cathedral at the top is steep but rewarded with panoramic views.
  • Ibiza's best beaches are cove beaches (calas) around the coast. Cala Conta and Cala Salada are gorgeous but require taxis (15-25 euro).
  • The hippie market at Las Dalias (Saturday) is legendary — but only practical if your ship is in port on a Saturday.
  • Ibiza town restaurants along the harbour are expensive. Walk into the backstreets of Sa Penya for better value.
