The Classic Greek Islands Cruise Route
A typical Greek Islands cruise visits 4-6 islands in 7 days, usually departing from Athens (Piraeus). The most common ports are Santorini, Mykonos, Rhodes, Crete, and Corfu. Each island has its own character, cuisine, and charm.
Port-by-Port Highlights
Santorini: Caldera views, Oia sunset, volcanic wine tasting, and swimming at Red Beach or Perissa. The most dramatic island.
Mykonos: White-washed Chora town, windmills, Little Venice, and legendary beach clubs. Cosmopolitan and energetic.
Rhodes: Medieval Old Town (a UNESCO site), the Street of the Knights, and Lindos with its hilltop acropolis. History and beaches.
Crete (Heraklion): The Palace of Knossos (Minoan civilization), the Archaeological Museum, and incredible Cretan cuisine.
Corfu: Venetian architecture, the Liston promenade, olive groves, and a green landscape unlike any other Greek island.
Patmos: The Cave of the Apocalypse and the Monastery of St. John. Spiritual, peaceful, and off the beaten path.
Summer Tips for the Greek Islands
July and August are extremely hot (35C+). Start port days early, retreat to air conditioning or the beach at midday, and explore again in the late afternoon. Restaurants open late — dinner at 9pm is normal. Book popular sunset-view restaurants in advance.
