St Lucia Travel Guide
St Lucia has twin volcanic Pitons rising from the sea, sulphur springs, lush rainforest, and some of the most beautiful coastal scenery anywhere. An island that takes your breath away.
How Do You Get to the Pitons?
Negotiate a full-day taxi from Castries ($100-120 per car for 2-4 people). For a shorter trip, Marigot Bay is 30 minutes south.
What Can You Do in 6 Hours?
The Pitons — Twin volcanic peaks rising 750m from the sea. Views from the road above Soufriere are jaw-dropping.
Sulphur Springs — Walk through steaming volcanic vents, then soak in warm mud baths. Entry EC$20.
Marigot Bay — Stunning hidden bay surrounded by palms. Featured in several movies.
Castries Market — Saturday morning market with produce, spices, hot sauces, and local crafts.
Where Should You Eat?
Green figs and saltfish: National dish — green bananas with salted cod. Simple and uniquely St Lucian.
Cocoa tea: Hot chocolate from local cocoa sticks with spices. Rich and extraordinary.
Is St Lucia Worth Exploring Independently?
A taxi for the day to the Pitons is much cheaper than ship excursions ($100 taxi vs $150+ per person through ship).
