Barbados Travel Guide

Barbados is the most British of the Caribbean islands — cricket, afternoon tea traditions, and a parliament older than most countries. But it's also vibrantly Bajan: rum punch, flying fish, reggae rhythms, and the friendliest people you'll meet.

How Do You Get from the Ship to the Beach?

Walk 10 minutes into downtown Bridgetown. For beaches, take a taxi or bus. Carlisle Bay (10 min taxi) is closest. West coast beaches like Mullins Bay are 30-40 min.

What Can You Do in 6 Hours?

  1. Carlisle Bay — Calm turquoise water with sea turtles. Snorkel with them for free right off the beach.

  2. Mount Gay Rum Distillery — World's oldest rum distillery. Tours with tastings from $15 USD.

  3. Harrison's Cave — Stunning underground cave system with stalactites and underground streams. 40 min from port.

  4. Bridgetown & Parliament — UNESCO-listed historic Bridgetown. Parliament buildings, Chamberlain Bridge, and the Careenage.

Where Should You Eat?

Flying fish: Fried, steamed, or in a cutter with hot pepper sauce. Oistins Fish Fry is the most famous spot.

Cou-cou and flying fish: The traditional combination — cornmeal and okra mash with flying fish in Creole sauce.

Rum punch: Every bar has its own recipe. The classic: one sour, two sweet, three strong, four weak.

Is Barbados Worth Exploring Independently?

Barbados is safe, English-speaking, and well-connected by public buses. Carlisle Bay with sea turtles is a short taxi ride. Go independent.
