Arabic Coffee Ceremony
Gahwa is light, cardamom-scented, in small cups (finjan) with dates. Accept with right hand, shake gently when finished. UNESCO-recognised.
The Indian/Pakistani Scene
Some of the best Indian/Pakistani food outside South Asia. Huge expat communities brought authentic biryani, dosa, kebabs, chaat.
Ramadan Dining
Eating in public during daylight is restricted. Iftar is spectacular. Harees, thareed, luqaimat are Ramadan staples.

Challenging for traditional Gulf food. Levantine and Indian restaurants offer best vegan options. Say 'bidun lahm, bidun haleeb'.
Gluten-Free
Rice-based dishes are naturally gluten-free. Avoid bread-based dishes. Gulf cuisine uses rice more than wheat.
Common Allergies
Nuts in desserts and rice. Dairy in sauces. Sesame on breads. Say 'andi hassasiya min...'.
