Getting to Tsukiji from the Cruise Port

Tokyo's cruise terminal at Harumi is about 3km from Tsukiji Outer Market. A taxi costs about 1,500 yen. You can walk in about 35 minutes. The market is best between 7am and 1pm — many stalls close by early afternoon.

What to Eat

  • Tamagoyaki — Sweet Japanese egg omelette on a stick. The signature Tsukiji snack.

  • Fresh sushi — Counter sushi restaurants with some of the freshest sushi in the world.

  • Grilled seafood skewers — Scallops, crab legs, and tuna cheek grilled over charcoal.

  • Wagyu beef — A5 wagyu on skewers or in small bowls. Expensive but extraordinary.

  • Mochi and dango — Traditional rice sweets. Perfect for dessert.

Market Etiquette

Walk on the left. Do not block stalls. Eat at the stall or in designated areas — walking while eating is rude in Japan. Most stalls are cash-only.

Lucy is essential at Tsukiji — she reads Japanese menu boards, translates fish names, and helps you communicate with vendors who rarely speak English.
