From the Cruise Terminal to the City

The Kai Tak Cruise Terminal is in Kowloon. A free shuttle bus runs to Kowloon Bay MTR station. From there, the entire city is accessible. Taxis are plentiful and affordable — about 50-80 HKD to most Kowloon destinations.

Getting an Octopus Card

The Octopus card is a rechargeable transit card that works on the MTR, buses, ferries, and even in many shops. Buy one at any MTR station for 150 HKD. It saves time at every turnstile.

Essential Transit Options

  • MTR — Fast, clean subway. Signs in English and Chinese. Runs from 6am to 1am.

  • Star Ferry — Iconic ferry between Kowloon and Hong Kong Island. 4 HKD and spectacular views.

  • Peak Tram — Funicular to Victoria Peak. Book timed tickets online to avoid queues.

  • Ding Ding trams — Double-decker trams on Hong Kong Island. Slow but charming.

Lucy translates Cantonese menus and signs, helping you explore beyond the tourist areas where menus are Chinese-only.
