Arriving in Santorini by Cruise Ship

Santorini does not have a dock for large cruise ships. You anchor offshore and take a tender to the small port at the base of the caldera cliffs. From there, take the cable car (6 euros, 3 minutes) to Fira town at the top. Allow 20-30 minutes for queuing on busy days.

What to See and Do

  • Fira — The main town at the top of the cliffs. White-washed buildings, blue domes, and stunning caldera views.

  • Oia — The famous village for sunset views and photography. A bus from Fira takes 25 minutes.

  • Walk from Fira to Oia — A 10km cliff-edge path with extraordinary views. Takes about 3 hours. Only for fit walkers.

  • Wine tasting — Santorini has unique volcanic wines. Several wineries offer tastings with caldera views.

Eating in Santorini

Caldera-view restaurants charge a premium. The food is better and cheaper on the inland side of Fira. Try local specialties: tomatokeftedes (tomato fritters), fava (yellow split pea puree), and fresh grilled fish.

Lucy translates Greek menus instantly — essential when the best restaurants have Greek-only chalkboard specials.
