Getting into the City

Reykjavik's cruise port is about 3km from the city center. Most cruise lines provide a shuttle bus. You can also walk along the waterfront in about 35-40 minutes.

What to See and Do

  • Hallgrimskirkja — The iconic church. Take the elevator to the top for panoramic views over the colorful rooftops and ocean.

  • Harpa Concert Hall — Stunning modern architecture on the waterfront. Walk through the glass-walled interior.

  • Laugavegur Street — The main shopping street. Local design shops, bookstores, cafes, and street art.

  • Sun Voyager sculpture — The striking stainless steel ship sculpture on the waterfront. A perfect photo stop.

What to Eat in Reykjavik

Traditional dishes include lamb soup, smoked arctic char, and the famous hot dogs from Baejarins Beztu. Modern Reykjavik has excellent seafood restaurants and surprisingly good coffee. Be warned: Iceland is expensive. A simple lunch can cost 20-30 USD. Budget travelers should try the bakeries.

Lucy translates Icelandic menus and signs, explains traditional dishes, and helps you navigate a language that has barely changed since the Vikings.
