From the Cruise Port to the City Center

Copenhagen's cruise terminal at Langelinie is an easy 20-minute walk to the city center. The Little Mermaid statue is right next to the terminal — see it first before the crowds arrive.

A Walking Route Through Copenhagen

  1. The Little Mermaid — Smaller than you expect but essential. Get your photo, then move on.

  2. Kastellet — A star-shaped fortress with green ramparts. Beautiful for a peaceful walk.

  3. Nyhavn — The colorful canal-side street. Copenhagen's most photographed spot.

  4. Stroget — One of Europe's longest pedestrian shopping streets.

  5. Tivoli Gardens — The historic amusement park. Beautiful gardens and architecture even without rides.

  6. Torvehallerne Market — Excellent smorrebrod, pastries, and coffee.

Eating in Copenhagen

Danish smorrebrod (open sandwiches) are the essential lunch. Rye bread topped with herring, shrimp, or roast beef. Danish pastries are best from local bakeries. Budget tip: hot dog stands serve excellent polser for about 40 DKK.

Lucy helps translate menus at traditional restaurants and read historical plaques throughout this beautiful city.
