Escaping the Tourist Zone
The area immediately surrounding Cozumel's cruise terminals is designed for tourists. Walk 10-15 minutes toward San Miguel town center and the food scene transforms completely. This is where locals eat, and the difference in quality and price is dramatic.
Where to Eat
The town square area has small restaurants serving Yucatecan food. Look for cochinita pibil, panuchos, and salbutes.
Taco stands appear on side streets around lunchtime. Tacos al pastor, carnitas, and fish tacos. A plate costs about 50-80 pesos.
